The personal brand

I “improve” things.

I'm Scott. I didn't build UglyDog; Well not in the traditional sense. It is me; the name, the work, the values, and the way I do things. It is a reflection of who I am, what I like to do, and how I work.

Why UglyDog?

A memorable name for serious work.

UglyDog is not a conventional business name, and the mix of services is not conventional either. That is deliberate. The brand reflects the way I work: practical, direct, technically curious, and focused on solving real problems properly.

The same mindset sits behind every division: understand the job, remove the confusion, use the right tools, and deliver something useful.

My philosophy

Skills earned, not just studied.

I do not offer a service unless I have spent years sharpening the skill behind it. My software and automation work is not just theory. It comes from a long-running personal interest in computers, code and problem-solving, starting when I wrote my first piece of software for fun at 10 years old on a Sunday morning with a Sinclair Spectrum 16K.

My maintenance and repair work is not casual DIY either. It is backed by a diploma in welding & fabrication, as well as a previous maintenance business that ran for over eight years before COVID, supported by more than 100 verified customer reviews. That business was born from working on-site in my teenage years, being a labourer for a house builder. I have been a maker and fabricator for as long as I can remember, and I have a well-equipped workshop where I can design and build custom parts to solve unusual problems.

Unified approach

The through-line is results.

Whether I am writing code, building an automation system, fabricating a custom part, or fitting something in a home, the aim is the same: useful work, done cleanly, with care and attention.

Direct contact

No middleman. Just me.

UglyDog is personal. I review the enquiries, write the code, design the parts, and carry out the repair work myself. You deal directly with the person doing the job.

Reliability

Show up. On time. Finish the work.

The simplest promise is often the hardest to find. I do what I say I will do, when I say I will do it.

Transparency

Clear pricing.

No hidden fees, no runaround, and no technical jargon used to hide the cost. You get a clear price before the work starts.

Quality

Built to last.

Whether it is an AI assistant, a CAD design, a fabricated part, or a garden gate, the work gets the same attention to detail.
